Bulk Synchronous Parallel (BSP)
Processing Model

Introduction

Bulk Synchronous Parallel (BSP) processing model was first proposed by Valiant as a possible bridge between software and a range of parallel hardware architectures. Its aim is to replicate, in parallel computation, the universality of the von Nuemann model, forming a foundation for successful, commercial parallel computing. Although much research has been undertaken on the theoretical aspects of the model there is still a great deal of work to be done concerning the practical aspects including hardware and software. The following RTTS projects are or have been contributing to BSP research.
